Recognized as one of the ten most influential Texas Baptists of the 20th Century, Dr. Jimmy Allen is the former president of the three million member Baptist General Convention of Texas (1972-1973), and the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention (1978-1979). In addition to his work at the founding New Baptist Covenant event in 2008, Dr. Allen launched the Missions Service Corps and served as founding moderator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.
Dr. Allen has pursued racial reconciliation throughout his career, having served on the planning conference for the first White House Conference on Civil Rights, and conducted the first state workshop on Christianity and Race Relations in Southern Baptist history.
He holds a doctor of theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and honorary degrees from multiple institutions.
