St. Louis, Missouri

The Spirit of the Lord is upon us!

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon us! We covenant before God and with each other, “to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,” in St. Louis, MO by addressing key issues related to poverty in our community. We will host the 7th annual city-wide missional day of service and organize hundreds of volunteers to engage in a winter clothing drive and multiple housing projects for those in need. Though education and advocacy, we will also address predatory lending on both the congregational and legislative levels in St. Louis, MO.

stlouis_yellowIn St. Louis, MO, Baptist churches have heard Jesus’ call to, “proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,” and are taking action.   Harrison Ave. Mission Baptist Church, Kirkwood Baptist Church, and St. Luke Memorial Missionary Baptist Church have made a covenant of action to address key issues of poverty in their community.

Harrison Ave Baptist Church and Kirkwood Baptist church are expanding their annual city-wide missional day of service.   During their day of service, these churches collect clothes and food for those in need and help the elderly with yard work and home repairs.

stlouis_wheelbarrowsHarrison Ave Missionary Baptist Church and Kirkwood Baptist Church are also joining St. Luke Memorial Missionary Baptist Church to confront predatory lending in their community. In Missouri, predatory lenders can charge up to 400% interest on loans. Such practices lead to crippling debt and prey on the community’s most vulnerable citizens. St. Louis covenant partners are taking a stand against such practices through educating their congregations about these practices and lobbying their legislature to restrict this economic injustice.

Through their work, covenant partners in St. Louis are transforming their community to better reflect Jesus’ Luke 4:18-19 vision.

Our Covenants of Action are as diverse as the communities that make them. Across the country many Baptist churches have put this model into action. These stories highlight just some of the ways that the New Baptist Covenant movement is supporting pastors and faith leaders in their efforts to live out the Gospel in their city or town.
